Senate holds Dr. Fauci in contempt over Covid hearing

Dr. Anthony Fauci is a very famous doctor who helped America during the Covid-19 sickness.

Some senators wanted to ask him questions about Covid-19 and how the sickness started.

Dr. Fauci did not want to answer the questions because he was afraid he might get in trouble.

There is a special rule in America that lets people stay quiet if answering could get them in trouble; it is called 'pleading the Fifth.'

Dr. Fauci used that rule more than 100 times during one meeting.

Some senators were not happy and voted to punish him.

They say Dr. Fauci was already protected from punishment by a pardon from the old president, so he should have answered.

Other people say everyone has the right to stay quiet, even famous doctors.

Now the Justice Department will decide if Dr. Fauci should be punished.

This big argument may change the rules for everyone.
