RBI fines HDFC Bank Rs 91 lakh for regulatory lapses
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has fined HDFC Bank 91 lakh rupees for not following the rules properly.
The bank didn't follow the rules about knowing their customers well, how they categorize loans, and how they outsource some of their work.
The RBI found these problems during a check of the bank's financial status as of March 31, 2024.
The fine is to make sure banks follow the rules, but it doesn't mean all the bank's deals with customers are bad.
The RBI said the penalty is not about the validity of any transaction or agreement entered into by the bank with its customers.
Additionally, the RBI imposed a smaller penalty of 3.1 lakh rupees on Mannakrishna Investments for governance issues.
RBI imposed a Rs 91 lakh penalty on HDFC Bank for regulatory lapses.
Violations include non-compliance with the Banking Regulation Act and KYC norms.
Issues also involve discrepancies in loan categorization and outsourcing guidelines.
The penalty is based on a statutory inspection conducted on March 31, 2024.
RBI clarified that the penalty is not about the validity of any transaction or agreement entered into by the bank with its customers.
