Senators Urge Immediate Russia Sanctions as US-India Trade Talks Stall

Two US senators want the White House to use new rules to put stronger economic pressure on Russia.

They say Russia’s war effort is supported by money, banks, and supplies that sanctions could target.

Most parts of the law are expected to start on October 18, after a 30-day review period.

The law does not automatically place a 100% tariff on goods from India.

However, countries that buy large amounts of Russian energy could face tariffs of up to 100%.

India and the United States are also discussing a trade deal.

India’s finance minister said the talks are continuing but that it may be hard for either side to make further concessions.

Russian oil purchases and the trade balance are part of the disagreement.
