Meta's 2026 AI Investment and India Tax Payment
Meta, the company behind Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp, is planning to spend a huge amount of money—between $60 billion and $135 billion—in 2026 on artificial intelligence (AI).
This money will be used to buy computer chips, build big data centers, and make their AI tools better.
Meta's CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, says this big investment is important to stay ahead in the AI race.
They want to add more AI features to their apps like Instagram and WhatsApp, and even build one of the world's biggest AI supercomputers.
Even with this big spending, Meta expects to make a lot of money in 2026.
Additionally, Meta has paid nearly ₹6,000 crore in income tax to the Indian government in 2025.
The company also faces challenges in India, including investigations and lawsuits related to WhatsApp's terms of service and data sharing.
Meta warns that restrictions on data transfer or sharing could affect its services and financial results.
Meta plans to invest between $60 billion and $135 billion in AI in 2026, a significant increase from $60–65 billion spent in 2025.
The investment will focus on training AI models, building AI supercomputers, and adding AI features to Meta's platforms like Instagram and WhatsApp.
Meta aims to own its own data centers and power supply to save money at a large scale.
Despite the massive spending, Meta expects to generate $50–55 billion in free cash flow in 2026.
Meta paid nearly ₹6,000 crore (USD 652 million) in income tax to the Indian government in 2025, after accounting for net refunds.
