Bombay High Court Converts Tribal Schools Plea Into Wider PIL

Bombay High Court Converts Tribal Schools Plea Into Wider PIL

Tribal students in Maharashtra protested by going on hunger strike.

They said their residential schools and hostels needed better buildings, food, safety and education.

The Bombay High Court had ordered the government to protect the students and provide doctors and hospital care.

The court also said students should receive food if doctors recommended it.

One student’s health reportedly became worse in Pune.

The court has now turned the case into a public interest litigation, or PIL.

This means the court will look at the wider problems affecting tribal ashram schools.

The government said its leaders and student representatives had already met to discuss solutions.
