SC Stays Kokate's Conviction in Cheating Case

The Supreme Court in New Delhi decided to temporarily stop the punishment of a former minister from Maharashtra named Manikrao Kokate.

He was found guilty of cheating and forgery in a court case.

The Supreme Court said that Kokate won't lose his status as a member of the legislative assembly, but he also won't be allowed to hold any other important government jobs.

The court also asked the Maharashtra government to respond to Kokate's request for help.

This decision was made by two judges, Chief Justice Surya Kant and Justice Joymalya Bagchi.

The lower court had given Kokate a two-year sentence, which was confirmed by another court in Nashik.

The case is about Kokate and his brother getting flats from the government in a dishonest way by submitting forged documents.
