CAG flags 72% delays in Army emergency contracts
The Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) found that 72% of the Indian Army's emergency procurement contracts were delayed.
These contracts were supposed to be completed quickly to meet urgent needs, but many were not delivered on time.
The CAG said the Army should have regularized these delays properly.
The delays happened even after special permissions were given to speed up the process.
The report also mentioned that some local companies couldn't make the required military equipment on time.
Additionally, the report noted that fewer students from the National Cadet Corps (NCC) and Sainik Schools were joining the Armed Forces than expected, especially in the North-Eastern Region and the East Zone.
72% of Army emergency procurement contracts were delayed, defeating the purpose of special waivers.
Only 28% of contracts were completed within the stipulated one-year timeline.
Delays ranged from one month to 18 months, with 17% of deliveries not completed by December 2023.
The CAG recommended that deviations should be regularized by the Army Headquarters.
30% of supply orders for indigenised armament spares were foreclosed due to suppliers' inability to develop the items.
