ICMR Team Deployed to Gujarat Over Chandipura Virus Outbreak

Some children in a part of India called Gujarat are getting very sick from a tiny germ called the Chandipura virus.

To help, a group of very smart doctors and scientists from India's medical research organisation are going to Gujarat.

Their boss, Dr. Rajiv Bahl, says they want to find out how the virus works and how to stop it from spreading.

They also hope to find ways to treat people who get sick.

The virus can come from tiny biting bugs like sandflies, mosquitoes, and ticks.

A person who gets sick may start with a fever, and can become very ill, even going into a coma.

The World Health Organisation says that in the past, many people who got this virus in India did not survive.

Scientists have actually been studying this virus in Gujarat for the last two years, and this is not the first time it has made people sick.

A big previous outbreak happened about two years ago, and now a team of experts has been sent to Gujarat to help again.
