Bangladesh and Pakistan Rebuild Ties Through Flights, Trade and Dialogue

Bangladesh and Pakistan are trying to become closer after many years of limited contact.

Their lawmakers have started talking more and inviting each other to visit.

Officials from both countries also restarted regular diplomatic discussions.

Direct flights between Dhaka and Karachi have returned after about ten years.

Pakistani ships have also begun visiting Chittagong again.

Bangladesh sent senior government workers to Pakistan for leadership training, something not done in this organized way since 1971.

The two countries say they want more trade and easier official travel.

These changes happened after Sheikh Hasina left office in Bangladesh in August 2024.

Bangladesh is seeking more foreign partners, while its relationship with India has become more strained.

India has allowed the flights to use its airspace but has said it wants a constructive relationship with Dhaka.
