Iranian Protester Erfan Soltani Released on Bail
Erfan Soltani, a 26-year-old protester in Iran, was released on bail after being arrested on January 10 during nationwide protests.
His lawyer confirmed his release on Saturday after paying a bail of around $12,600.
Soltani was charged with propaganda against Iran's Islamic system and acting against national security.
The US had claimed he was sentenced to death, but Iran's judiciary denied this, stating his case was still under investigation and the charges did not carry the death penalty.
The protests started on December 28 and turned into riots, with Iran acknowledging over 3,000 deaths, mostly security forces and innocent bystanders.
However, a US-based human rights agency confirmed 6,713 deaths, mostly protesters.
The demonstrations have since subsided.
Soltani's family appealed to US President Donald Trump to stop his execution, stating that he was never a political activist.
