SGB 2018-19 Series VI redemption price fixed at ₹15,102

A Sovereign Gold Bond is a special saving bond from the Government of India that lets people invest in gold without buying real gold coins or jewellery.

In February 2019, people bought this bond when one gram of gold cost about ₹3,276.

Gold has gone up a lot in price since then.

Now, in August 2026, the Reserve Bank of India is letting these investors sell their bond back for ₹15,102 per gram.

That means their money has grown to about four and a half times what they paid, a return of around 361%.

The bond also pays a small interest of 2.5% every year, twice a year, so investors earn even more.

The bank decides the buy-back price using real gold prices from the three days just before the redemption date.

Unlike holding physical gold, there are no storage or making charges, which is one reason people like these bonds.

Investors who do not redeem now keep earning interest and stay tied to gold prices until the bond finishes its eight-year term.
