Denmark and Greenland oppose Trump's sovereignty proposal

US President Donald Trump has suggested that the United States could gain control over areas of Greenland where American military bases are located.

This is a partial alternative to his earlier demand for full ownership of the island.

Greenland's premier, Jens-Frederik Nielsen, has strongly rejected this idea, stating that sovereignty over any part of the island is not negotiable.

Trump has been pressuring Denmark to hand over Greenland, but Denmark and Greenland have formed a united front against his proposals.

The strategic importance of Greenland for US missile defense and space surveillance operations is a key factor in these discussions.
