US Rejects Mango Exports from India Over Procedural Issues

Some mangoes from India were rejected by the US.

This led to exporters losing money.

The issue seems to be that US inspectors didn't follow the usual steps when checking the mangoes.

Specifically, they reported problems to their bosses in the US before talking to the people in charge of the facility in India.

The Indian government says this could have been avoided.

The mangoes must be treated with radiation to get rid of pests, a process monitored by the USDA.

An investigation is ongoing regarding the data recording process at the Mumbai facility.

Exports have since resumed with no problems at the other two approved facilities.

Mangoes are exported under an agreement between the US and India.
