Parliament Passes Repealing Bill 2025
The Parliament of India has passed a new bill called the Repealing and Amending Bill, 2025.
This bill will remove 71 old laws and make changes to four other laws.
The goal is to make life easier for people by getting rid of laws that are no longer useful or fair.
Some of these laws are very old, even from the 1800s.
The government says this will help undo some of the effects of colonial rule.
However, some people in the opposition think the bill is just about paperwork and doesn't really help people much.
The bill was passed with the support of many different political parties.
Parliament passed the Repealing and Amending Bill, 2025 to repeal or amend 71 obsolete laws.
The bill aims to enhance ease of living and doing business by removing redundant and discriminatory laws.
Union Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal stated the reforms are a step towards liberation from a colonial mindset.
The bill repeals laws like the Indian Tramways Act, 1886, and amends laws like the Indian Succession Act, 1925.
Opposition MPs disputed the government's claims, alleging the bill is largely paperwork without significant impact.
