Sebi Extends Rebalancing Rule for Mutual Fund Breaches
Imagine you have a toy chest (a mutual fund) with a rule about what kinds of toys (assets) you can have.
Sometimes, the toys end up in the wrong places by accident, like if a new toy (corporate action) is added or some toys get moved around because the price changes.
This is a "passive breach."
The rule says that these toys need to be put back where they belong within 30 business days.
Sebi, the rule maker, has clarified that this rule applies to all kinds of accidental toy mix-ups, not just certain ones, to keep the toy chest organized and protect the kids who use it (investors).
Sebi extends rebalancing timeline rule to all passive MF breaches.
The rule applies to all passive breaches across actively managed schemes.
Passive breaches are unintended deviations from asset allocation or regulatory limits.
Mandated rebalancing period is 30 business days for most schemes.
The clarification follows a recommendation from the Mutual Funds Advisory Committee (MFAC).
