Bhopal Reels Under Rain as Waterlogging Exposes Drainage Woes

It rained very hard in a city called Bhopal, in India, for two days without stopping.

The rain filled the streets with water because the city's drains could not carry it all away.

Many neighbourhoods, especially low-lying areas like Karond, Khejda and Chhola, had water sitting around for almost two days.

Some parts of the city slowed down or stopped because of the floodwater.

Several flooded spots were near big construction projects, and people began asking whether the planners had built good enough drainage.

To help, the Bhopal Municipal Corporation sent more than 1,200 workers to pump out the water and respond to emergencies.

Firefighters also brought special pumps to suck the water off the streets.

The city's commissioner told all emergency teams to stay on duty round-the-clock until the problem was handled.

The city's flood control room received more than 26 emergency reports in just 12 hours.
