UP Police Attaches ₹28.5 Crore Assets in Codeine Smuggling Case
The Uttar Pradesh Police have started taking away assets worth ₹28.5 crore from Bhola Prasad Jaiswal, the main person involved in an illegal codeine cough syrup smuggling case.
The police found that he had a big illegal business selling these syrups, which are usually only sold with a doctor's prescription.
The syrups were being sold illegally at very high prices, especially in areas with many Muslim people, because alcohol is not allowed in Islam.
The police have been investigating this case since 2024 and have made many arrests and seized a lot of the illegal syrups.
They are now taking away his assets to stop him from using the money he made illegally.
UP Police attached assets worth ₹28.5 crore belonging to Bhola Prasad Jaiswal, the main accused in a codeine smuggling case.
The assets include fixed deposits, bank accounts, a Mercedes-Benz car, and residential properties in Varanasi.
The illegal syndicate, led by Jaiswal, was involved in the smuggling of codeine-based cough syrups, which are sold illegally as an alternative intoxicant in Muslim-majority areas.
The investigation revealed that the network extended beyond Uttar Pradesh to Kashmir, West Bengal, Bangladesh, and other countries.
Over 128 FIRs were filed, 280 drug licenses were cancelled, 3.5 lakh vials were seized, and more than 32 arrests were made in the case.
