Chinkara Poachers Nabbed in Pune After Night Chase
In May 2021, forest officials in Pune saw a bright light in the forest at night.
They chased two men on a motorcycle and caught them.
The men had a dead chinkara, a special kind of deer, in their bag.
They also had a gun and bullets.
The officials took the men to the police because it is illegal to hunt chinkaras.
Later, in September 2021, two more chinkaras were found dead in another part of the forest, but the police couldn't find who did it.
Chinkaras are protected by law, so hunting them is a serious crime.
Forest officials spotted suspicious torchlight in Indapur forest and chased two men on a motorcycle.
The men were caught with a dead chinkara, a 9 mm rifle, and ammunition.
Mahesh Jangalu Mane and Dattatraya Popat Pawar were arrested under the Wildlife Protection Act.
In September 2021, two more chinkaras were found shot dead in Abhayvan Kadbanwadi forest.
