Andhra Pradesh High Court Halts Commercial Use of Temple Land
The Andhra Pradesh High Court has told the government they can't use temple land for things like commercial events.
Some people filed a complaint because the government wanted to use temple land for an exhibition called 'Vijayawada Utsav'.
The court agreed the land shouldn't be used for these events and must be returned to its original state.
The court said the government must remove gravel dumped on the land and not use it for commercial purposes.
Andhra Pradesh High Court ruled against using temple land for commercial purposes.
The court was responding to a petition challenging the land allotment for the 'Vijayawada Utsav' exhibition.
The government had sought to allot land belonging to the Godugupeta Sri Venkateswara Swamy temple.
Petitioners argued that the land was agricultural and should not be used for an exhibition.
The court ordered the land be restored to its original status and the gravel removed.
