IPOs: Diverging Trends as Retail Drives SME Listings
In August 2025, the Indian stock market saw interesting changes in how companies raised money.
Mainboard IPOs, which are large companies, saw fewer new offerings, while SME IPOs, which are smaller companies, grew a lot.
This is because QIBs (big institutional investors) favored mainboard listings, while retail investors showed more interest in SME listings.
Overall, the market has shown resilience, with several new companies listing and the SME platform growing, showing the strength of India's financial system.
SME IPOs saw a 40% MoM growth in August, reaching ₹843 crore.
Mainboard IPOs decreased by 78% MoM in August.
QIBs increased their share in mainboard IPOs.
Retail investors led participation in Emerge platform IPOs.
90 companies were listed in the first five months of FY26, raising over ₹54,000 crore.
