Maharashtra Revises Heavy Vehicle Curbs On Mumbai-Goa Highway

The Maharashtra government changed traffic rules for the Ganesh festival.

Very large vehicles will normally be stopped on the Mumbai-Goa highway for 39 hours.

The stoppage begins on September 19 and ends late on September 20.

This is meant to reduce traffic jams as many devotees travel to Konkan.

Police officials can loosen the rule if traffic conditions make that safe.

They must consider people travelling for the festival before making changes.

Trucks and other heavy vehicles are included in the restriction.

Officials must also make sure cargo continues moving through JNPT.

The order was issued by the state Transport Department.
