IRF Urges Stricter Measures for Unpaid Traffic Fines
The International Road Federation (IRF) has asked the Indian government to take stronger steps to collect unpaid traffic fines.
They suggested that if people don't pay their traffic tickets, their driver's license could be taken away for a while, and they might not be able to renew their car insurance.
Right now, there are a lot of unpaid traffic fines in India, especially in the capital city.
The government has already started some measures, like not letting people transfer their vehicle ownership if they have unpaid fines, but the IRF thinks more needs to be done.
Some courts are canceling these electronic traffic tickets because the system that detects violations isn't always reliable.
The IRF wants to make sure people pay their fines on time to avoid these problems.
IRF urges the Indian government to implement stricter measures for recovering unpaid traffic violation fines.
Proposed penalties include driving license suspension and blocking insurance renewal for non-payment.
There are approximately five crore pending unpaid traffic challans in the National Capital alone.
Current government measures, such as vehicle ownership transfer restrictions, are showing some effectiveness.
Courts often quash e-challans due to uncertainties in the Intelligent Traffic Management System.
