Fifty Young Musicians Receive Subbulakshmi Fellowships Across India
Fifty young musicians received fellowships to help them continue studying and performing music.
The awards were given by the Sri Shanmukhananda Fine Arts and Sangeetha Sabha.
The event celebrated 100 years since M.S. Subbulakshmi made her first recording.
Each musician will receive Rs 1 lakh every year for three years.
The fellowships support singers and players of instruments such as violin, flute, tabla and mridangam.
Dr Nanditha Ravi also received an award for helping teach music.
A special postal cover was released to remember Subbulakshmi’s first recording.
The Sabha has now supported 231 young musicians through the fellowship.
Fifty young musicians from across India received the Sri Shanmukhananda M.S. Subbulakshmi Fellowship in Music.
The fellowships were awarded during celebrations marking 100 years since M.S. Subbulakshmi made her first recording.
Each fellow will receive Rs 1 lakh annually for three years across disciplines including vocal music, violin, flute, mridangam, tabla and nadaswaram.
Musician Dr Nanditha Ravi received the Sri Shanmukhananda Dr M.S. Subbulakshmi Sangeetha Pracharya Award for contributions to music education.
A commemorative postal cover and cancellation were released, while the Sabha said its fellowship recipients now total 231.
