Hassabis Reveals DeepMind's Google Sale Details

Demis Hassabis, the CEO and co-founder of DeepMind, recently talked about why his company was sold to Google in 2014.

He explained that DeepMind didn't have enough money to keep working on Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) by itself.

Hassabis said it would take about $7 billion to compete with global tech giants, but DeepMind could only raise around $10 million.

This financial struggle, along with the challenge of retaining top researchers, made the sale to Google necessary.

The sale price was $650 million, and it allowed DeepMind to continue its work with greater resources.

Hassabis shared these details during a speech at the Worshipful Company of Information Technologists Annual Lecture.
