BMC Housing Lottery Sees Low Turnout for 426 Flats, Draw to Proceed
Imagine the city's housing department wanted to give away some new homes.
They decided to hold a lottery, like drawing names out of a hat, to pick who gets these homes.
They had 426 homes to offer, which are quite affordable, costing between about 55 lakh and 1 crore rupees.
But, surprisingly, not many people entered the lottery.
Only about 2,000 people applied for all those homes.
Even though not many people applied, the city officials said they will still do the lottery as planned.
The list of people who can get a home will come out soon, and then the drawing will happen to see who wins.
Some places had more people wanting homes than others, with one area having a lot of applications for just a few houses.
This is the first time the city is doing this lottery by itself instead of using a different organization.
BMC's first housing lottery received only 2,037 applications for 426 available flats.
The lottery draw will proceed as scheduled on November 20, despite the low applicant numbers.
Flats are priced between Rs 55 lakh and Rs 1 crore, with 381 for EWS and 45 for LIG buyers.
Application interest varied significantly by location, with Marol seeing high demand for limited units.
The BMC is conducting this lottery independently to streamline the allocation of homes acquired through development regulations.
