Tribal Body Launches Self-Census in Bastar, Chhattisgarh
Imagine a group of people called the Sarva Adivasi Samaj is doing their own research about the tribes in a place called Bastar.
They want to know about the people's lives: how they are born, how they live, and what they believe in.
They're using a special app to keep track of everything, like where people live, if they move and who they marry.
This is because sometimes the government doesn't know everything about them.
They want to make sure that the tribes' culture and rights are protected.
Even the government says this is okay, as long as they still trust their own counts, too!
A tribal body in Bastar, Chhattisgarh, launched a social census to preserve identity and culture.
The Sarva Adivasi Samaj is collecting data on the tribal population's social, economic, and cultural status.
The census covers births, deaths, marriages, land ownership, migration, and cultural elements.
The initiative, launched in March 2025, aims to address discrepancies in government census data.
Other communities in the region, including OBC, SC, and ST, are also included.
