ECI Orders Recheck of Voters in West Bengal

ECI Orders Recheck of Voters in West Bengal

The Election Commission of India (ECI) has asked all Booth Level Officers (BLOs) in West Bengal to carefully check voters who were added to the list through progeny-mapping.

This is because there is a big difference between the number of voters found through progeny-mapping and those found through self-mapping.

Progeny-mapping is when a person's name is added to the voter list because their parents are already on the list.

Self-mapping is when a person's name is on both the current and the 2002 voter lists.

The ECI wants to make sure that all voters are real and that there are no mistakes.

They will check things like the age difference between voters and their parents and make sure that the photos on the forms match.

The draft voter list will be released on December 16, 2024, and the final list will be out on February 14, 2025.

In West Burdwan district, over 3 lakh voters have been marked as 'uncollectible', meaning they may have moved, passed away, or cannot be found.

The ECI will publish the draft voter list later this month and the final list next year.
