Madhya Pradesh Plans Sugar Stock Limits For Bulk Consumers

Madhya Pradesh Plans Sugar Stock Limits For Bulk Consumers

The Madhya Pradesh government plans to control how much sugar large users can store.

The rule is expected to apply from September 1 to November 30.

It is meant to stop hoarding and help address rising sugar prices.

Businesses using more than 10 metric tonnes of sugar each month could keep supplies for only 15 days.

These businesses include confectioners, food processors and sweet sellers.

Government institutions would not be covered by the order.

Officials will compare sugar sales records with Goods and Services Tax returns.

The state stopped distributing sugar through the Public Distribution System after March because a related central scheme ended.
