CBI Challenges Delhi HC Bail in Unnao Rape Case
A man named Kuldeep Singh Sengar, who was a leader in a political party, was sentenced to life in prison for a serious crime he committed in 2017.
Recently, a court decided to temporarily pause his prison sentence while he appeals his conviction.
This decision has caused a lot of anger, and people, including the victim's family, have been protesting outside the court.
The police have warned the protesters that they are not allowed to demonstrate there and have asked them to go to a designated protest area.
The victim's family and supporters are planning to challenge this decision in the highest court of the country.
The court that paused his sentence set some rules, like requiring him to pay a large amount of money and stay away from the victim.
Sengar is also in prison for another crime related to the victim's family, so he can't leave jail yet.
The organization that investigates serious crimes has decided to challenge this decision in the highest court.
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) filed a Special Leave Petition (SLP) in the Supreme Court challenging the Delhi High Court’s decision to grant bail to Kuldeep Singh Sengar in the 2017 Unnao rape case.
The Delhi High Court suspended Sengar's life sentence and granted him bail on strict conditions, including a Rs 15 lakh bond and restrictions on contacting the victim.
Protests erupted outside the Delhi High Court, with the victim's family and women's rights activists demanding the cancellation of Sengar's bail.
The victim's mother expressed loss of faith in the justice system and plans to challenge the bail order in the Supreme Court.
Sengar remains in jail as he is also serving a 10-year sentence for the custodial death of the victim's father.
