India Hosts Major Democracy and Election Summits in 2026
India is hosting two big meetings in January 2026.
The first one is the 28th Commonwealth Speakers’ Conference from January 14-16 in Delhi.
Leaders from the parliaments of 42 countries will attend.
They will talk about how new technologies like artificial intelligence and social media are changing the way parliaments work.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will open the event, and Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla will lead the discussions.
The second meeting is the International Conference on Democracy and Election Management from January 21-23 in New Delhi.
Nearly 100 delegates from around the world will attend.
They will discuss how to make elections fair and transparent.
India is known as the world’s largest democracy and will share its expertise in managing elections.
Both meetings aim to make democracies stronger and more inclusive.
Pakistan and Bangladesh will not be sending representatives to the first conference.
After the first conference, there will be a tour to Jaipur to show off India’s culture.
Additionally, the Union Budget for 2026-27 will be presented on February 1, 2026, which is the first time it will be presented on a Sunday.
India will host the 28th Commonwealth Speakers’ Conference (CSPOC) from January 14-16, 2026, at the Central Hall of the Samvidhan Sadan in Delhi.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the CSPOC, and Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla will chair the conference.
The CSPOC will focus on the impact of artificial intelligence and social media on parliamentary democracy and democratic values.
Participants will include Speakers and Presiding Officers from 42 Commonwealth countries, with a total delegation strength of around 61.
The agenda includes workshops on AI in parliament, the impact of social media, enhancing public understanding of parliament, and the security and well-being of parliamentarians.
India will also host the International Conference on Democracy and Election Management (IICDEM 2026) from January 21-23, 2026, at the Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi.
The IICDEM 2026 aims to bring together electoral leaders, experts, and scholars to exchange best practices and strengthen international cooperation in election management.
The conference is expected to welcome nearly 100 international delegates representing 42 Election Management Bodies (EMBs) and 20 academic experts.
The event will focus on election management, technological evolution, misinformation, and transparency, aligning with India’s 2026 chairship of the Council of Member States of International IDEA.
