Michigan Says Lettuce Safe Again as Cyclospora Cases Decline

Michigan Says Lettuce Safe Again as Cyclospora Cases Decline

Many people in Michigan got sick this summer from a tiny germ called cyclospora.

The germ was hiding in lettuce that came from farms in Mexico.

Some people ate it at Taco Bell restaurants.

The germ gave people stomach problems like watery diarrhea, feeling sick, and being very tired.

Health experts told everyone to stop eating bagged salads for a while so the germ would not spread.

Stores took the bad lettuce off the shelves in many states.

Sadly, two people died, and hundreds of people needed hospital care.

Now the number of people getting sick is going down.

Michigan's health department says it is safe to eat lettuce again, but people should still avoid the recalled lettuce.

Most people are getting better, and the germ does not spread from person to person.
