Assam Opposition Accuses BJP of Electoral Roll Manipulation
Some political parties in Assam, like Congress and Raijor Dal, have accused the ruling BJP of trying to remove the names of their supporters from the voter list.
They say the BJP president and a cabinet minister are involved in this plan.
The opposition parties have even filed a police complaint and asked for a video of a meeting where these plans were discussed.
The BJP says they are doing a regular update of the voter list, but the opposition thinks it's a trick to cheat in the upcoming elections.
The final voter list will be out on February 10, and the elections might happen in March or April.
Assam opposition parties filed a police complaint against the BJP, alleging a conspiracy to delete names from electoral rolls.
The complaint names BJP state president Dilip Saikia and cabinet minister Ashok Singhal, accusing them of orchestrating the deletion in 60 legislative assembly constituencies.
The opposition parties claim this is an attempt to remove supporters of opposition parties from the electoral rolls.
A Special Revision of electoral rolls is underway, with the final voter list to be published on February 10.
Assembly elections are likely to be held in March-April, and the opposition parties have urged the police to secure the footage of a Zoom meeting as crucial evidence.
