Supreme Court Suspends Hopeson Ningshen’s Life Sentence, Grants Bail

The Supreme Court has allowed Hopeson Ningshen to leave prison while his appeal is considered.

He was convicted of killing three Manipur government officials in 2009.

A special Central Bureau of Investigation court gave him a life sentence in 2014.

Ningshen had already spent more than 17 years in prison.

The Supreme Court said his appeal could take a long time to decide.

The Manipur government objected to his release.

The judges still granted bail and paused his sentence.

He must stay in Delhi until the appeal is finished.
