Eurozone Inflation Hits ECB Target in December
The price of things in the Eurozone went down a little bit in December.
It went from 2.1% in November to 2% in December, which is exactly what the European Central Bank (ECB) wants.
This means things are getting a bit cheaper, especially because energy prices went down.
Even when you take out the prices of food and energy, which can change a lot, the prices of other things also went down a little bit.
The ECB thinks prices will keep going down and be just right by 2028.
But they are being careful and not changing their interest rates yet.
They want to make sure prices stay just right before they do anything.
Eurozone inflation fell to 2% in December, matching the ECB's target.
Softer energy prices drove the decrease, offsetting persistent food price increases.
Core inflation, which excludes food and energy, dipped to 2.3% from 2.4%.
The ECB expects inflation to fall below 2% in 2026-2027 and return to target by 2028.
The ECB kept its deposit rate unchanged at 2% in December, maintaining a cautious stance.
