Michigan State Football Penalized by NCAA, Loses 14 Wins and Faces Probation
Imagine a school's football team, Michigan State, got in trouble with the big bosses of college sports, the NCAA.
They used players who weren't allowed to play.
Because of this, the NCAA is punishing the team.
The team has to be extra good for three years, like being on a short leash.
They also have to pretend they didn't win 14 games from recent years, so those wins are taken away.
The school also has to pay some money.
Some coaches who used to work there are now banned from coaching other college teams for a while because they didn't follow the rules.
The school wants to do better now and follow all the rules.
NCAA placed Michigan State football on three years of probation for infractions involving ineligible players.
Michigan State will forfeit 14 wins from the previous three seasons.
The university faces a $30,000 financial penalty and a percentage of its football budget.
Former coach Mel Tucker, Brandon Jordan, and Saeed Khalif received show-cause penalties, barring them from college coaching.
MSU has reached a settlement with the NCAA to mitigate sanctions and plans to adhere to rules moving forward.
