Supreme Court Upholds Convictions in Kannagi-Murugesan Honor Killing
Imagine a young couple, Kannagi and Murugesan, who loved each other, but belonged to different castes.
Sadly, their families didn't approve of their marriage.
In 2003, the couple was murdered because of their families' disapproval, in what's known as an honor killing.
The girl's father and brother were the main people who did it.
The Supreme Court has now said that the people who did this have to stay in jail to pay for what they did.
It's a harsh reminder of how some people are treated unfairly just because of where they come from, and the court wants to make sure this kind of thing doesn't happen.
Murugesan and Kannagi, belonging to different castes, married in 2003.
The couple was murdered by Kannagi's family due to caste differences.
The murder was initially covered up, but the story spread by word of mouth.
