Police can't decide civil property disputes, Allahabad High Court rules

Sometimes two people or families disagree about who owns a piece of land or a house.

In India, there is a special court called a civil court that is supposed to solve these arguments.

A big court called the Allahabad High Court has now said that police are not allowed to decide such fights.

Police can stay nearby to make sure nobody fights or breaks the law, but they cannot pick a winner.

This happened because an 85-year-old woman said the police were helping the other side in her family property fight.

The woman's case about the same property was already going on in a civil court.

So the High Court said that case should decide who owns the property, not the police.

Police who go beyond their rules could get into trouble or face punishment.

The court also told police to stay neutral and keep the peace.
