Remembering the Horrors of the 1947 Partition of Bharat

A long time ago, in 1947, one big country called Bharat was split into two countries, Bharat (India) and Pakistan.

When the border was drawn, millions of people had to leave their homes and move to the other side.

During that scary time, some people were hurt, and many families were separated forever.

In a place called Sheikhupura, a witness said that thousands of men were killed in just a few days.

In Muzaffarabad, a survivor named S. Khazan Singh said that more than one thousand people were killed and many were pushed into a river.

He said he was captured and forced to follow a different religion before soldiers helped him escape.

In a small village called Thoha Khalsa, the people paid money to the attackers to stay safe, but they came back anyway.

The women of the village were so afraid that almost all of them jumped into a well.

The article says we should remember these sad stories so that we never repeat such terrible mistakes again.
