Supreme Court Orders ED to Trace Missing Mahadev App Accused
Imagine someone who was involved in a big online gambling scam, Ravi, was caught in Dubai.
India wanted him sent back to face charges, but he managed to escape from Dubai to a secret place.
The Supreme Court of India is very unhappy about this, saying people accused of serious crimes shouldn't be able to run away from the law.
They have ordered a special agency, the ED, to find Ravi and bring him back.
The court also told Ravi's lawyer that he can't keep asking for more time and needs to convince Ravi to come back and face the judge.
Ravi and his friend started this big gambling app a few years ago, and it made a lot of money from illegal betting.
The Supreme Court has ordered the Enforcement Directorate (ED) to trace and secure absconding Mahadev betting app co-founder Ravi Uppal.
Uppal has reportedly fled from Dubai to an undisclosed location, obstructing extradition proceedings to India.
The court expressed strong disapproval of Uppal evading law enforcement, calling it "shocking" and stating he cannot treat the legal system lightly.
Uppal had challenged a High Court order to join a money laundering trial in Raipur, with his plea being dismissed by the Supreme Court.
India has an extradition treaty with the UAE, but Uppal may have moved to a country without such a treaty, complicating his retrieval.
