Congress MP demands probe into Kerala's drug control
A Congress MP named Jebi Mather Hisham spoke in the Rajya Sabha about a big problem in Kerala.
She said that recent checks found many fake and bad medicines in the state.
She blamed the state's drug control department for not doing its job properly.
She also talked about hospitals in Kerala not having enough tools for surgeries and a building in a medical college that collapsed, which she said shows the healthcare system is not working well.
Another MP from the CPI(M) party, John Brittas, disagreed and said the fake medicines were made outside Kerala and the state government is doing a good job catching them.
The Congress MP asked the central government to investigate the drug control department in Kerala.
Congress MP Jebi Mather Hisham raised allegations of counterfeit and substandard medicines in Kerala during the Rajya Sabha session.
Raids in Kozhikode, Thrissur, and Thiruvananthapuram revealed the extent of the problem.
Hisham criticized Kerala's drug control department and healthcare infrastructure, citing shortages of surgical tools and postponed surgeries.
She referred to the building collapse at Kottayam Medical College as a symbol of the healthcare system's collapse.
CPI(M) MP John Brittas objected, stating that the counterfeit medicines were produced elsewhere and brought to Kerala.
