Delhi High Court Orders Nutella to Donate Filling Jars to NGOs
The Delhi High Court has told the company that makes Nutella, a popular chocolate spread, to fill over 3 lakh empty fake jars with real Nutella and give them to charities that feed poor people.
The court said this could be part of the company's social responsibility.
The fake jars were seized in a raid.
The court also made the people who were selling these fake jars pay a fine and destroy other fake packaging.
The company had asked for more money, but the court said that amount was too high.
The court also said that the people selling the fake jars knew they were breaking the law.
Delhi High Court ordered Nutella to fill and donate over 3 lakh seized counterfeit jars to NGOs as part of CSR.
The court directed the defendants to return the jars to the plaintiff company within two weeks.
The defendants were ordered to pay Rs 10 lakh in damages and destroy all other seized packaging material.
The court rejected the company's claim of Rs 53.3 crores in damages, calling it 'imaginary'.
The defendants admitted to selling the counterfeit jars but claimed they were unaware of the company's proprietary rights.
