India Urged to Gain Self-Reliance in Rare Earth Elements
The President of India spoke about how important it is for the country to be able to make its own special materials called rare earth elements, which are used in many modern technologies like smartphones and electric cars.
She explained that these materials are not actually rare, but it's difficult to process them.
She wants scientists to develop ways to do this in India and also to find ways to get valuable minerals from the oceans without harming the environment.
She also mentioned the environmental effects of mining.
The President wants the country to develop methods for better environmental protection and waste reduction.
President Murmu emphasized the importance of India achieving self-reliance in the production of rare earth elements (REEs).
REEs are essential for modern technology, including smartphones and electric vehicles.
The President highlighted the need to develop indigenous technology to refine REEs.
She urged geoscientists to develop technologies to utilize ocean resources and minimize mining's environmental impact.
The President stressed the importance of sustainable mineral development, including waste reduction and proper mine closure.
