Bangladeshi Workers Protest in Malaysia Over Unpaid Wages and Mistreatment
Imagine you traveled to a faraway country to work and help your family, but the company you work for didn't pay you all the money you earned.
Some workers from Bangladesh went to a government office in their home country to ask for the money they are owed and to tell people that they were treated badly.
They said two companies in Malaysia, Mediceram and Kawaguchi, owe many workers money.
One company even stopped paying workers after a judge said they had to pay them.
Another company stopped paying people when its big customers, like Sony, stopped buying their products because the workers were reportedly not treated well.
These workers want the companies and governments to help them get paid and be treated fairly.
Around 100 Bangladeshi workers protested in Dhaka, Bangladesh, demanding unpaid wages and compensation.
The protest was organized by the Migrant Welfare Network over alleged widespread mistreatment of migrant workers in Malaysia.
Two Malaysian companies, Mediceram and Kawaguchi Manufacturing, are accused of exploiting 431 Bangladeshi workers.
Complaints of forced labor and neglect have been filed against companies and their major customers, including Ansell and Sony.
Workers shared experiences of partial payments, withheld salaries for months, and non-compliance with Malaysian Labor Court orders.
