Hyderabad faces severe groundwater depletion crisis
Hyderabad is facing a serious water problem.
The groundwater, which used to be found at depths of 300 to 500 feet, is now much harder to find, even at depths beyond 1,000 feet.
People are drilling very deep borewells to find water, but many of these borewells are drying up.
Last year, 4,000 borewells stopped working, and this year, the number has increased to 12,000.
This has led to a higher demand for water tankers.
The government and environmental experts are warning that if strict measures are not taken to conserve water and stop illegal drilling, the situation will get worse.
They suggest using rainwater harvesting and treated water to reduce the stress on fresh water.
Residents are also advised to use water more carefully to avoid wastage.
Groundwater levels in Hyderabad are declining rapidly, requiring borewells to be drilled beyond 1,000 feet.
Over 12,000 borewells have dried up this year, increasing demand for private water tankers.
Affected areas include LB Nagar, Miyapur, Hafeezpet, Banjara Hills, Jubilee Hills, Kukatpally, and Nizampet.
Government and environmental experts warn of catastrophic consequences if strict measures are not taken.
Residents and experts advocate for regulated drilling depths and water conservation practices.

Borewell Drilling Depth
Residents and Developers
Residents and developers are drilling borewells as deep as 2,000 feet to access groundwater due to severe depletion.
Government and Environmental Experts
Government and environmental experts advocate for regulated drilling depths and strict enforcement of laws to prevent over-extraction.
Water Conservation
Residents and Developers
Residents and developers prioritize immediate water access through deep borewells despite high costs.
Government and Environmental Experts
Government and environmental experts emphasize the need for rainwater harvesting, treated water usage, and disciplined water consumption to conserve groundwater.
