Jay Clayton Confirmed as US Director of National Intelligence

Jay Clayton has been confirmed as the new Director of National Intelligence in the United States.

The Senate approved his nomination with a 51-to-47 party-line vote.

Clayton will oversee all 18 US intelligence agencies.

He was nominated by President Donald Trump and brings extensive experience in law, finance, and government.

Democrats had initial concerns about his independence, particularly regarding his stance on the 2020 election, but Republicans defended his qualifications.

Clayton's confirmation could help revive negotiations on Section 702 of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act.

He previously served as the chairman of the US Securities and Exchange Commission and has a background in law and finance.
