Telangana to Launch Third Discom for Subsidized Power
The Telangana government is creating a new power company to manage free and subsidized electricity.
This new company will start working on April 1 and will take over all government-subsidized power schemes.
The existing power companies, SPDCL and NPDCL, have been struggling financially because the cost of providing power is higher than what they charge.
The new company will help by taking over the subsidized power supply, which will make things easier for the existing companies.
The new company will handle power for farms, homes, schools, water projects, and other government schemes.
Telangana government approves creation of a third Discom for free and subsidized power supply.
New Discom to start operations on April 1 to ease financial burden on existing Discoms.
Existing Discoms, SPDCL and NPDCL, have faced financial difficulties due to the gap between billing rates and service costs.
New Discom will manage power supply for agricultural pump sets, domestic power, government institutions, and various water and irrigation schemes.
State Cabinet approved the proposal in November, and the new Discom will oversee all power subsidy schemes.
