US rejects $60B Gaza reconstruction funding reports
The US government said reports that it would pay $60 billion for rebuilding Gaza are false.
The actual plan, called Project Sunrise, costs $112.1 billion and includes building houses, schools, hospitals, and other infrastructure.
The US will help pay for some of it, but not $60 billion.
The plan also needs Hamas, the group controlling Gaza, to stop using weapons before it can start.
The goal is to make Gaza a modern, smart city with better living conditions.
US State Department denies reports that it will pay $60 billion for Gaza reconstruction, calling them 'fake news'.
Project Sunrise is a $112.1 billion plan to rebuild Gaza with futuristic infrastructure, including smart cities and high-speed rail.
The US will anchor at least 20% of the total costs, with financing from grants and new debt.
Implementation of the plan is contingent on Hamas demilitarizing and decommissioning weapons and tunnels.
Project Sunrise could begin in as soon as two months if security conditions allow.
