IICT and ISRO-VSSC Collaborate on Eco-Friendly Blowing Agent Technology

IICT and ISRO-VSSC Collaborate on Eco-Friendly Blowing Agent Technology

The Indian Institute of Chemical Technology (CSIR-IICT) and the Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre (VSSC) of ISRO have teamed up to create a new, eco-friendly technology for making lightweight polymer foams.

These foams are used in important applications and are made using special chemicals called blowing agents.

The new technology will use chemicals called hydrofluoroolefins (HFOs), which are better for the environment because they don't harm the ozone layer and have very low global warming potential.

This project will help India make these important chemicals on its own, reducing the need to import them from other countries.

The collaboration brings together IICT's expertise in making these chemicals and VSSC's knowledge of how to use them effectively.

This partnership is a big step towards making India more self-reliant in advanced materials.
