Telangana High Court Orders Pay Revision for Ex-Biodiversity Board Chairman
The Telangana High Court recently made a big decision to help Dr. R Hampaiah, who used to be the head of the Andhra Pradesh State Biodiversity Board.
The court said that Dr. Hampaiah should get more money for his job because he was earning less than people who worked under him.
The court decided that his pay should be increased to Rs 80,000 per month, which is what other people in similar jobs were getting.
The court also said that the government should give him the extra money he missed out on because of the delay.
This is important because it shows that everyone should be paid fairly for the work they do, especially when they have important jobs.
Telangana High Court ordered a pay revision for Dr. R Hampaiah, former chairman of the Andhra Pradesh State Biodiversity Board, to align with the 6th Central Pay Commission recommendations.
Dr. Hampaiah's pay was increased from Rs 44,000 to Rs 80,000 per month plus allowances, effective from February 5, 2009.
The court ruled that the state cannot act as a 'parsimonious employer' and must ensure fair compensation for statutory positions.
The court applied the doctrine of parity, stating that Dr. Hampaiah was subjected to differential treatment without any intelligible basis.
The court directed the disbursement of arrears within twelve weeks, emphasizing the violation of constitutional principles of equal pay for equal work and the Right to Dignified Remuneration.
