US-India Forum Defends Green Cards, H-1B Amid Tech Crackdown
A business group called USISPF says skilled immigrants help the United States grow and create new ideas.
It says Green Cards and H-1B visas have helped many workers build careers in the country.
The government has suspended eight technology companies from a process used to support some workers' Green Card applications.
Officials say the action is about alleged fraud and misuse.
USISPF says it also wants immigration rules to be followed fairly.
But it says the country should not overlook the contributions of skilled workers from other countries.
The group pointed to Indian Americans as one example of people contributing to businesses, technology and taxes.
The suspension affects a Green Card certification process and does not automatically cancel existing H-1B visas.
The US-India Strategic Partnership Forum defended the economic value of the Green Card and H-1B programmes.
The Trump administration suspended eight technology companies from the PERM programme, citing alleged fraud and misuse.
USISPF cited 2022 Census data showing $2.1 trillion in combined household income and $579.2 billion in federal, state and local taxes.
The forum said Indian Americans make up about 1.5% of the US population and contribute around 6% of its GDP.
USISPF supported efforts to prevent immigration fraud while urging policymakers to preserve the benefits of skilled legal immigration.
